Linda and Phill Hunt - 'a bit about us'!
Our lives before we met in 1991 were the typical hectic, overworked, debts-galore, uhappy existence. We both had been in marriages that ended and found ourselves leading single lives again. Both of us were working as Youth Workers for homeless young people, working the same shifts and able to share a lot about ourselves with each other, feeling very comfortable and trusting of one another - we had become true friends.
Our relationship grew stronger and stronger and we married in 1996, knowing each others "warts and all" so to speak. It wasn't easy for many years; both having debts prior to our marriage and accumulating more together and then we had our first baby in October 1996 - Tayla! I found it very hard going back to work after my maternity leave finished, but had no choice we needed the money. Phill has three grown children to his first marriage - Melinda, Greg and Harley but at this time was still maintaining them. In September 1998 our daughter Kaisha was born, again I struggled with guilt going back to work, I didn't want to leave my babies. We were lucky that at the time my Mother cared for both the girls which was better than child care, but still it nagged at me daily. We are very fortunate to have five wonderful, happy and healthy children and they are the highlight of our life and the great thing is, we are both still very much in love.
We both became very disillusioned with the "traditional" lifestyle; get up, go to work, pay the bills and more bills, come home, start work at home: cook tea, wash the dishes, do the laundry, then try and spend quality time with your children and maybe grab some time for yourself or some togetherness with your partner, normally by this time your to exhausted and generally drop in front of the TV, then fall into bed and start all over again the next day.....hohum.....not for us!
We both knew there was more to life and we wanted it. In 1999 we resigned from our jobs and started a home based business doing webdesign and development, an area Phill had been training in part time. Looking back it was a very brave decision and one we are so glad we made. Don't get me wrong it hasn't been smooth sailing and we haven't always made the right decisions but they have been our decisions and our choices and we have grown to be stronger people for it.
The long and short of it all is that we have survived and we are working towards a totally simplistic lifestyle, one that we have consciously chosen ourselves. We work from home, home-educate our two daughters and have more time for ourselves as individuals to grow and learn, more time for family and friends and our marriage. It is such an empowering process and one that constantly needs to be worked on, refined and reviewed, but one that is worth it, after all what is the alternative!
Anyone can do it, it starts with a choice to 'just do it', an awareness and the courage to go deep within ourselves and discover our soul and our hearts desires, our true values and to stand by them. They always say that you should teach what you need to learn the most. That is what this site is about for us, we are committed to this way of life, we want to share what we have learnt along our journey so far and, learn from others who are taking the same path, thank you for sharing the journey with us.
Be well!
